SALEM, Ore., April 27, 2021 / PRNewswire / – Capitol Dental Care, one of the that of Oregon dental care organizations with a network of more than 700 dental providers in 18 counties, launches an innovative technological solution to provide quality dental care to Medicaid registrants in Oregon under 14, pregnant women, adults over 65, and members who live more than 75 km from a Capitol provider.
The COVID-19 pandemic has resulted in a huge disruption in the delivery of dental services that have served as a safety net for those who cannot access quality care through other means. For children on Medicaid who depended on school-based oral health services to receive preventive dental care, distance learning created a greater challenge for preventive care.
In order to address these and other dental challenges, Capitol Dental Care is expanding its teledentistry visits to include in-home fluoride varnish application in underserved communities in Oregon. The program works as follows; once the patient has made their teledentistry appointment at 1-800-525-6800 or by e-mail [email protected], an oral hygiene kit containing a sachet of fluoride varnish, a toothbrush, toothpaste, dental floss, a developer tablet, a tongue cleaner and an oral health brochure are mailed to their homes. Upon their appointment, a Oregon A licensed dentist (dentist or extended practice dental hygienist) will assess dental problems, provide disease assessment, collect oral health information, provide step-by-step application instructions for safely applying varnish fluoride and provide oral hygiene instruction.
“We are extremely happy to launch this initiative to serve those most at risk and most affected by the COVID-19 pandemic. Good oral hygiene and preventative care are essential to overall health. And by providing this service with the addition of the fluoride app, we are helping children, pregnant women, the elderly, and patients with geographic barriers to stay on top of preventative dental care that is currently not available to them. available due to the pandemic, ”said Manu Chaudhry, MS, DDS, President and Dental Director, Capitol Dental Care.
