LETCHER COUNTY, Ky. (WYMT) – A free dental clinic was held Wednesday through Saturday in Letcher County.
The event was hosted by those from SmileFaith and Global Dental Relief at Coal City Coffee in Jenkins.
SmileFaith manager Chrystal Bentley said everyone was welcome.
“We take care of everyone,” she said. “So they come from all over. Virginia, Tennessee, West Virginia, Kentucky, we put no limits on where they want to come. We are just happy to serve anyone who walks through the door.
Bentley said they see an urgent need for free dental care in Letcher County.
She said the COVID-19 pandemic has made things difficult for many.
“The anticipation is so great right now. A lot of people are rescheduled or just several months away,” Bentley said. “If you have an immediate need, we are grateful to be able to meet it.”
SmileFaith officials said they were pleased to partner with Global Dental Relief (GDR) for the event.
Clinical Travel Manager Mark Lisagor, with GDR, said it was a match made in heaven.
“We saw a tremendous need here in Letcher County and this beautiful clinic was available to us,” he said. “We’ve partnered with SmileFaith and it’s been working really well.”
Lisagor said they were busy.
He said they saw about hundreds of patients throughout the week.
“A lot of patients who are incredibly thankful and thankful,” Lisagor said. “They want to be a little healthier in every way possible. Of course, many of them are really in pain.
Bentley said it was a phone call or appointment for anyone in need of the service.
“That’s it, we’re not asking for any insurance information,” she said. “It’s free, you just come in and we do fillings, cleanings and extractions.”
The two organizations said another free dental clinic will be held next week, from Wednesday to Saturday.
