Dr. Qais Musmar, Dr. Iyad Hijaz and the team at Reflection Dental – Little River will be giving back to the community as part of Free Dentistry Day, a day dedicated to providing free dental care to the growing number of Americans without dental insurance. According to the US Department of Health and Human Services, approximately 108 million Americans currently live without dental insurance.

“We understand that many people in our community and across the country have not been to the dentist for a long time. Some do not understand the importance of dental health or have delayed routine checkups over the past few years due to the pandemic, but more often than not they cannot afford it,” Dr. Musmar said. “This event is a great opportunity for us to provide dental care to those who might otherwise go without.

There is a growing body of evidence linking oral health to overall health and well-being. Signs and symptoms of over 100 medical conditions including diabetes, HIV/AIDS, Lou Gehrig’s disease and oral cancer can first be detected through traditional oral exams. Visiting the dentist for routine checkups can help doctors identify these conditions early and, in some cases, prevent them from progressing.

“Dental health is a vital part of a person’s overall health,” Dr. Musmar said. “Through our Free Dentistry Day, we hope to educate patients on the importance of dental health and encourage them to adopt an ongoing oral care regimen.”

On Free Dentistry Day, a free tooth cleaning, filling, or tooth extraction will be offered to patients on Saturday, September 10 at 6546 Little River Turnpike in Alexandria. No insurance is required to receive free dentistry day treatment and patients will be accepted by appointment only.

“Free Dentistry Day is one of my favorite days of the year. It is very gratifying to see the impact that events like Free Dentistry Day can have on a person’s overall physical and mental health. As we change their lives, they change ours too, and it’s a day for everyone to smile. says Dr. Musmar.
