Last night, Lamar State College Orange hosted its second annual Career and Technical Education (CTE) Signature Day, awarding twenty-six students with technical scholarships sponsored by local industry and foundation partners.
The event, inspired by a high school student “signing off” his intention to play varsity sports, included scholarships from the Chevron Phillips Chemical Company Technical Program, the Donald T. Boumans Foundation, Invista Orange, of Cloeren Incorporated, of the Nelda C. and HJ Lutcher Stark Foundation and LSCO Foundation. Incoming and current students who have been awarded these scholarships, when called on stage, signed their scholarship certificates with their families, scholarship sponsors, and LSCO President Dr. Thomas Johnson at their side.
“Thanks to our generous local industry and foundation benefactors, the future of our current and incoming LSCO students will be much brighter. These technical scholarships represent a lifelong investment in our students, which, in turn, has an impact on our local community. We are so proud to celebrate these students and their achievements and look forward to seeing them succeed in the upcoming fall semester at LSCO,” said LSCO President Thomas Johnson.
Craig Lemons and Vicki Derese of Chevron Phillips Chemical Company, Wendell Tilley and Lacey Lemoine of Invista Orange, Peter Cloeren, Stefan Cloeren and Stephen Sandberg of Cloeren Incorporated, Clyde “Tad” V. McKee III of the Nelda C. Foundation and HJ Lutcher Stark, and former Mayor of Orange Brown Claybar of the LSCO Foundation.
