SRINAGAR: Online registration for the Prime Ministers Special Scholarship Scheme (PMSSS) is open for the 2022-23 academic year for J&K students. Eligible students can apply through the official website, aicte-jk-scholarship-gov.in
A special J&K cell at AICTE looks after the implementation of PMSSS at J&K for students to pursue undergraduate studies outside of Jammu and Kashmir. The J&K cell is responsible for the proper implementation of the scheme to achieve the objectives of the PMSSS.
AICTE has issued an official notification in this regard outlining details of eligibility criteria, courses and the like have been provided. According to the official notification, only students who passed 12th class of Jammu and Kashmir Board or Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) earlier in 2020-21 or appeared in 2021-22, can apply for the scholarship.
The scholarship will be awarded for courses such as General, Vocational (Engineering, Nursing, Pharmacy, Hospitality Management, Architecture, etc.) and Medical degree, Bachelor of Dental Surgery (BDS) or equivalent.
Under the scholarship program, students will receive different scholarship amounts on academic fees as well as accommodation fees. In case of academic fees, for general courses, students will receive financial aid of Rs 30,000 per year while for professional courses, they will receive up to Rs 1.25 lakh per year. For medical programs, students will receive up to Rs 3 lakh per year.
Students studying in any of the mentioned courses will also receive financial aid up to Rs 1 lakh per year towards hostel fees.
In a landmark decision, the central government has extended for five years the Prime Minister’s Special Scholarship Scheme (PMSSS) for Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh, under which 5,000 deserving students are funded each year to study in private and government educational institutions across the country.
The government has decided to continue the scholarship program while simultaneously focusing on opening new educational institutions in the union territories of Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh.
Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi for the extension of the PMSSS.
“Grateful to Prime Minister, Narendra Modi and Minister of Education, Dharmendra Pradhan, for extending the PMSSS for J&K students for another 5 years. With thousands of scholarships available each year, the program will provide our youth with the opportunity to dream big and achieve their dreams,” the LG J&K office had tweeted.
The Jammu and Kashmir Students Association (JKSA) also recently thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan for extending the scholarship program of the Prime Minister (PMSSS) for Jammu and Kashmir students.
